The Christmas show was a success

Well done L2!

Shared Kai - Tuesday 13th please send in a plate/container of food to share with L1 at lunch-time to celebrate our first year at school. We have come a long way together.  It would be good to celebrate with parents as well if they can make it.

Term 4 Week 7

Highlights of last Week

Great participation from L2 on Athletes day with quite a few placings in the running race. Those who stayed after lunch had a quiet afternoon finishing off activities of choice.

Friday saw another L2 member receiving an ORCA award.  Well Done!

This Week

We have the hall booked for two blocks on 3 days to practice our Christmas show. I have however still planned our usual reading, maths and writing activities to fit in at any spare spots we have, so you may or may not see readers every day this week.

Please bring in your costumes for the show in a named plastic bag early this week.  Each child will need a beanie, scarf and a red or green t-shirt.  Please decorate them if you can to look christmasy with tinsel etc. I will keep the costumes hanging in the class in their named plastic bag.  If you have extra's that can be lent to others that would be wonderful. Please make sure all items are named.

Thursday we will have a waterslide on the field at lunch time for years 1,2 & 3. Children will need to  bring their togs, towel and rash shirt if they want to have a go.

It was the last day for taking out library books last Thursday and we need to get all our library books returned this week. Please also return any readers you have at home as we are needing to stock take these early next week.

On Friday we will have a whole school Assembly.

Looking ahead

Monday 4th December - End of Year Family Picnic,  6-7.30pm There will be some Christmas carols playing and performances from Peaches and Pickles. It will be a great time to relax and meet up with other families.

The children enjoyed a presentation from the Bike Chap on Wednesday.

This week

Tomorrow (Tuesday) is our year one and two athletics day. Check your child's book bag as a notice was sent home.  In summary:

  • Wear mufti - comfortable for athletics
  • Must have sunblock already applied at home
  • Must have a sunhat
  • Bring a drink bottle
  • First block with be track events
  • Second block field events
  • Seating will be available for parents to watch/cheer
  • You must sign out at the office and let me know if you decide to take your child home afterwards
We will continue to fit in reading, writing and maths around our busy schedule - you just may not see readers every day.

Our year one Christmas show dates are:

Tuesday 5th December 9.30am

 Wednesday 6th December 2pm

Our costumes will consist of beanies, scarves and gloves (winter theme) with mufti clothes.  You may decorate the beanies and scarves with tinsel. Next week we will be wanting to get their costumes together and store them in named bags ready for the show. If you have spares that another child could burrow that would be great.

Today you will also find in your child's book bag some back to school raffle tickets.  There is no obligation to sell them, but they have great useful prizes.  You need to return sold tickets (named) with the money in the bag.

Update Tuesday 14th

Athletics was cancelled today, so we managed to complete the Keeping Ourselves Safe program.
Today we talked about what good secrets and bad secrets were and what to do about bad secrets - tell a trusted adult.

Christmas Show

Year ones had a meeting about the show this afternoon.  It was decided that it would be more appropriate and easier costume wise to follow an American Winter Christmas theme of scarves and hats.

Term 4 Week 5

Last week

It has been such a busy time this last week, trying to fit in the Keeping Ourselves Safe program, training for our athletics day and practicing for the year one Christmas production. I am amazed that even with all the these extras to fit in we are still progressing steadily in our reading, maths and writing.

The children have taken an interest in looking after our environment choosing to collect rubbish around our school at morning tea and lunch.

On Friday the whole school assembly hosted by our own VLC saw another L2 member receiving an ORCA award.

We were also proud to have one of our talented writers read aloud in front of the whole school her independent writing titled "Looking after nature".

This Week

We had a Tsunami drill after lunch today (Monday). L2 did really well with following instructions and getting to Edith Hopper Park in an orderly fashion.

We will continue with the Keeping Ourselves Safe program.  Sorry there will no library this week.  The children can however return and take books out at lunch time. Today we talked about and identified our body parts.  We also talked about touching that makes us happy, unhappy and confused and how we can tell people that we don't like it. The children were encouraged to talk to a trusted adult about things that may happen to them or that they are not sure about.

Tuesday will be our last year 1 athletics practice before our Athletics day next Tuesday 21 November 9.30am -12.30pm.

As our part in the Christmas show is to represent America, we will be dressing up as Christmas minions, so we are looking for plain yellow t-shirts (may have a small picture on the front as we will be coving it with a bib), and denim shorts.  We are planning on covering their faces with yellow face paint, so please let us know if this is will be a problem for your child.

Wednesday - 7pm - There will be a community meeting in the hall.  Meet the new teachers, hear the changes.  Find out about the exciting ideas for our school in 2018.

Tuesday- Keeping Ourselves Safe

Today we talked about our feelings, what makes us happy, sad, angry and scared. At home the children should discuss this with you.  We also talked about how keeping our personal information to ourselves. ie not writing our name and address on the outside of our bags.

I forgot to mention in the weekly blog that we do not have rubbish bins at school now.  The children need to take their rubbish/packaging that is not recyclable home again with them. If they don't want to put it back in their lunch box you will need to put a container in their bag.

We have a lot of children without bucket hats. The children must have hats to be outside.
